Book Signing

I cannot believe it’s already August! July was such a busy month; between working in my vegetable garden, coming up with tons of new recipes (with a special focus on zucchini since my plants produced quite the abundance!), and taking multiple camping trips to the nearby mountains to escape the heat here in Las Cruces, I took a break from blogging and other website-related activities to focus on the things that feed my soul: family, friends, and the great outdoors. If you’ve already read my book, you’ll know that eating to honor your food sensitivities is only one piece of the autoimmune puzzle. Taking the time to honor your physical, mental and emotional needs, as I did over the last few weeks, helps complete the puzzle to ensure you can feel better overall.

Yesterday I jumped back in with both feet, doing a book signing at Coas Books, an amazing local retailer that is truly a Las Cruces, NM treasure. I want to thank the staff there for being so welcoming to all local authors, and for giving me the opportunity to meet so many of you. And I want to thank all of you who shared your personal stories about navigating the difficult road toward health while dealing with an autoimmune condition. In the course of two and a half hours yesterday I spoke to dozens of you who suffer with symptoms resulting from thyroid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and more – not to mention those of you who shared that you just don’t feel “right” but have yet to be firmly diagnosed. There were also a number of you who shared stories about loved ones who were suffering.

My book is the product of my own journey, navigating the frustrating road towards feeling healthy with an autoimmune condition. Writing it was the first item on my retirement bucket list because the more I shared my story with people, the more I realized how pervasive the need for a hopeful resource to deal with food sensitivities. The term “elimination diet” sounds depressing and ominous. That’s why my book doesn’t dwell on what you can’t eat, and instead focuses on all the delicious ways to enjoy the foods that you can. Thanks to all of you who continue to see my book as a resource and an inspiration on your journey.
